The Esteticians studying at Northlands Parkway Collegiate in Winkler offered a special on toe nail polishing and express manicures on Friday to raise money for a charity which supports the recovery of burn victims.

Brenda Richer is the teacher in the department and said the charity, Mamingwey Burn Survivor Society, was chosen because it's closely tied with what her students are learning through the program.

"We [focus on] the physical, mental, and emotional benefits for receiving services," Richer said.

Mamingwey, the Ojibway word for "butterfly", offers support to burn victims through encouraging them and their families regarding the victim's physical appearance, which can be dramatically altered through severe burns.

Money was donated and estetic services were given by students. This gives these young women industry experience while supporting a charity.

"Right now they're just practicing their skills," said Richer. "I sure appreciate everybody coming; it's a great exprience for all the girls."

A little pampering was available to people of any age.
