A pair of serious accidents took place this week Tuesday and Wednesday, both on Highway 3.

Carman RCMP responded to the first accident North of Sperling on Tuesday that sent one man to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Investigators believe a southbound pickup truck crossed over the centre line and collided head-on with a northbound service utility truck and both vehicles ended up in the ditch.

RCMP report the driver of the pickup, a 68-year-old male from Gimli, has since been upgraded to stable condition.

A 65-year-old female passenger in the pickup, also from Gimli, suffered minor injuries. The 49-year-old male driver of the service truck, from La Broquerie, also suffered minor injuries.

Alcohol is not considered a factor, though RCMP say charges are being considered under the Highway Traffic Act.

Officers from the Carman Detachment along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist continue to investigate.

Less than 24 hours later, On Wednesday June 21, at approximately 6:40 am, Headingley RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 3, five kilometres north of Sanford, in the RM of Macdonald.

Investigators believe a northbound car, being driven by a 28-year-old male from Winnipeg, veered into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a semi-trailer.

The 28-year-old was pronounced deceased at the scene. It is not known if he was wearing a seatbelt or if alcohol was a factor. The driver of the semi-trailer, a 46-year-old male from Winnipeg, was not injured.

Officers from the Headingley Detachment along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist continue to investigate.
