The MLA for Midland says the provincial government has a lot of legislation to push through in a short time. the fall session of the Manitoba Legislature got underway last week and will wrap up in early December.

Blaine Pedersen explained the Tories plan to deal with five major bills that were held over from the spring session, as per sessional agreements.

"There's red tape reduction, ride share, we're going to eliminate the single-desk (marketing) in Fisheries, there's an advanced education bill dealing with bursaries and funding for universities, and the Elections Amendment Act."

And as the province's new minister for Growth, Enterprise and Trade, Pedersen has introduced the Canadian Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act in the legislature. The pact includes all provinces and territories, as well as the federal government and Pedersen said it will open up trade opportunities across the country.

"If anyone is in the export business, they know that it's sometimes easier to export around the world than it was to export between provinces."

He added the bill introduced last week will just clean up some of the language in the agreement and make room for additional clauses to be added in the future. "The agreement has been signed and this is really implementing it now," noted Pedersen.
