A 56 year old woman was taken to hospital in stable condition after being hit by a vehicle Tuesday morning at a busy Altona intersection. Emergency crews were called to Centre AVE. and 2nd St. NE around 9:30 a.m. where police say the female pedestrian had been hit by a pick up truck.

Investigation into the incident continues and the Altona Police Service is considering charges against the 64 year old male driver of the truck.

Meantime, police remind all users of the roads - including motorists, pedestrians and cyclists - to share the streets responsibly and says this incident is a good reminder to stop, look, listen and look again before proceeding through an intersection.

And with another school year set to begin Wednesday, the Altona Police Service is once again partnering with MPIC in the back to school, School Zone Enforcement Program. Officers will be focusing on this enforcement, as well as other areas, in the communities of Altona and Plum Coulee. In a release, the agency said "School is back in this week (and) streets will become even busier, please SLOW DOWN!"
