The new free app, Pembina Valley Live, launches today for Apple and Android devices.

Pembina Valley Live offers all the music, breaking news and information of Pembina Valley Online in a handy new format for smartphones and tablets.

Push notifications also alert users of Amber Alerts and Weather Warnings.

"If an event like that occurs... we can instantly notify everybody who has the app," Dave Lehman, Manager of Digital Media for Golden West, explains. "We can notify hundreds or thousands of people instantly."

He notes the free app also tracks severe weather systems and emergency warnings. You can watch weather systems roll in using the radar feature as well.

"It's something we're excited about because we see a lot of possibilities in the future," Lehman says, adding new interactive features could create early access to events and contests.

Along with breaking news, the app will allow organizations to alert people to cancelled classes or sports events.

"The app just provides an additional platform for us to create better ways to connect with the community," he says.

Users can also program garbage day notifications for their district, which sends a message to your device the night before garbage goes out.
