It was another sold out crowd for the annual Alzheimer's Ukrainian Dinner held Saturday in Carman. Three hundred people packed the local Community Hall to feast on perogies and other Ukrainian favourites, while taking in some musical entertainment and hitting the dance floor.

"This is unbelievable," said Bob Kowalchuk as he reflected on the evening.

Kowalchuk started the event back in 2002 in honour of his mom who had been diagnosed with the disease. He said that first dinner 15 years ago had 85 people attend and it's grown since then, selling out different venues during that time.

"They always say Carman is a great place for volunteers, for support, and it really shows. It's just tremendous," he said.

He added there were guests from across the region at Saturday's dinner, and noted he even had to turn away people inquiring from North Dakota because all of the tickets had been sold.

Meantime, $10,450 was raised from the event Saturday. Kowalchuk said over the years the fund raiser has generated about $50,000 for Alzheimer's awareness.
