The new indoor Play Land structure inside Altona's Millennium Exhibition Centre was officially opened on the weekend.

The Altona Elks Club, which spearheaded the project, organized ceremony Saturday afternoon.

"We've actually had people contacting us through social media thanks us for have something where they can take their children," said Elks member Guy Mullin. "We were flabbergasted. I've had people send me messages on my phone, people I don't really know, to say thanks. It's been a very good response from the community."

The project was estimated to cost about 90-thousand dollars and Mullin says they are confident all the fundraising events and grant money will cover the total.

Mullin says it was great project to do and it should serve the community for the next three decades.

"To have something that will benefit our children for the next 30 years is, I think, one of the best things you can leave behind."
