Winkler Police Service is investigating the theft of a vehicle.

On November 17 at approximately 11:45 p.m, police were notified by a resident of Park Street that his truck was stolen from his driveway. The truck was unlocked with the keys inside in the vehicle at the time it was stolen.

The next day, November 18, police were notified by RCMP the stolen truck was located in Rosenort with fresh damage to the vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Winkler Police Service at (204) 325-9990. Callers can remain anonymous.

Below is the Winkler Police Report for November 9-19:

November 9 – The owner of Zhen’s Acupuncture Clinic reported that on November 8th a suspicious male entered the store whose demeanour made the store owner very uncomfortable. After the male had left the store, a bottle of pills was noted to be missing. The store owner was able to provide police with a description of the suspect, however, did not wish to press charges. Police confronted a possible suspect, however, he denied the allegations.

Shortly before 11:30 pm, police were notified of a male who was wearing a shirt and shorts but no jacket stumbling all over the road while walking along Peters Avenue. The caller was concerned for the subject due to the cold winter temperature and his lack of winter clothing. Police were able to locate the 16-year-old male on Park Street, however, the male would not speak to police and appeared to be under the influence of some sort of drug. The male then entered his residence and a short time later was transported by ambulance to the Boundary Trails Health Centre. The male was yelling, combative with police and hospital staff, and was having violent outbursts. Blood results from the subject showed he had consumed a quantity of alcohol, marihuana and shatter. It was suspected that the male may have taken ecstasy as well. Police departed the hospital once the male calmed down.

November 10 – At approximately 10:15 am, police were notified by staff at the C. W. Wiebe Medical Centre of a female at Urgent Care who was acting very inappropriately and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The female, a 34-year-old resident of Winkler, was arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act and released once sober.

November 11 – Police received a report of a suspected impaired driver that was stuck near the south dike road. Police spoke with four youth occupants who advised police that they were attempting pull out their stuck snow machine from the bottom of the dike, and in the process, their vehicle became stuck as well. The driver advised that his father was attending to help remove all the vehicles. Police confirmed that none of the occupants were impaired or had consumed any liquor.

Police received a complaint from an employee of McDonald’s regarding threats he received from a co-worker on two occasions while at work on November 8th and 9th. The threats involved causing harm to the victim and his family. Police located the suspect, a 17-year-old male resident of Manitou, on November 16th and arrested him for Utter Threats (x2). He was remanded into custody and will appear in Manitoba Youth Court on November 20th.

November 15 – Police received a report of an assault that had taken place inside a residence on Southview Drive on November 12th. The female stated that her boyfriend was jealous that she was speaking with another male on the phone and proceeded to hit her in the stomach. Police arrested the 22-year-old male, a resident of Winkler, for Assault. He was later released on a Promise to Appear with conditions.

At approximately 7:30 pm, police were dispatched to Ardene’s located in the Southland Mall regarding a report of shoplifting involving a young male and female. Police located a male and female outside the mall entrance, and when asked who was in possession of the stolen clothing, the suspects reported another female inside the mall had the clothing. Police spoke with the female inside the mall who immediately admitted to wearing the stolen clothing. While placing the first female, a 15-year-old resident of Winkler, under arrest, she attempted to flee police but was apprehended and arrested inside the mall. She was later released with no charges and issued a verbal warning for Theft Under $5000 and for Resisting Arrest. The second female, a 16-year-old resident of Winkler, was arrested for Possession of Goods Obtained by Crime and Breach Sentence Order, and released on a Promise to Appear with conditions. The male, a 16-year-old resident of Winkler, was arrested for Theft Under $5000 and Breach Sentence Order and later released on a Promise to Appear with conditions.

November 18 – Police were on general patrol when they observed a suspicious vehicle with three passengers parked on Roblin Boulevard East. Upon speaking with the driver of the vehicle, police noted a strong odour of marihuana inside the vehicle as well the odour of liquor on the driver’s breath. Police also observed a can of liquor in the front passenger door pocket and seized four cans of liquor in total from the vehicle. The driver complied to a demand for a breath sample, the result of which was an “Alert” reading. The driver, a 20-year-old male resident of Winkler, who is subject to zero BAC restriction, was issued a 72-hour driving suspension, tickets for Drive Unregistered Vehicle and Unlawful transportation of Liquor in a Motor Vehicle, and the vehicle was towed from the scene. All occupants of the vehicle were issued verbal warnings for Possession of Marihuana, which was seized and destroyed.

November 19 – Shortly before 3:30 am, police noted a suspicious vehicle with three passengers parked at the Southland Mall parking lot. Police noted a strong odour of marihuana inside the vehicle. Two of the passengers admitted to possessing marihuana and drug paraphernalia, which were seized and destroyed. All passengers were given verbal warnings for Possession of Marihuana.

Police received a complaint from a resident of Victoria Street regarding a remote controlled drone that often flies near his residence and hovers over his backyard. Police spoke with the 15-year-old owner of the drone and requested that he not fly the drone near the neighbour’s property. The young male apologized for his actions.
