With city lots running low in Winkler, developers are looking for new avenues.

A subdivision South of the Winkler Golf Course is currently in the works.

However, while still within city limits, the 7.6 acre piece of land adjacent to Pembina Ave. is currently not serviced and would require the installation of a life station, sewer forcemain and watermain in order to be developed.

The City of Winkler and the developers continue to work on a Development Agreement and possible cost-sharing plan for the needed services.

Winkler Mayor Martin Harder explains while the city has approved the idea, some of the initial costs would need to be borne by the developer.

"It should be a nice area, it's a natural expansion of where our residential is going," Harder says, adding they need to find a sensible solution to service the development.

"The developer needs to crunch his numbers and make sure it works for him."
