Public works crews continue to clear many of the snow-packed roads in the region today.

In Winkler, City crews are working to clear all streets and ask residents to make sure no cars are parked on the street until after the plows have come by.

Meanwhile the City of Morden crews started clearing around 5:00 a.m. this morning, and have hired private contractors to assist with the clearing. Director of Public Works Les Wieler stated driveways will also be opened up as they go and it's their goal to have everything cleared by 6:00 p.m.

Plows are out in the R.M of Stanley today as well.

"Please be patient because this snow isn't cooperating with us," said R.M of Stanley Reeve Morris Olafson. "We had one grader stuck this morning in a five foot snow drift in the middle of the road, so it's pretty heavy out there. Lets be patient and we will get to you as soon as we can, and be safe out there."

Olafson noted the main roads make up roughly 150km of the RM's roads and it's their goal to have these open as soon as possible. He added crews haven't had much of a chance to get into the villages, but are working toward getting into them.

A familiar scene around the Pembina Valley yesterday and today

As the wind continues to blow, it poses a significant challenge for crews, because it takes the snow and blows it back and another drift starts forming.

Public Works Manager for the Municipality of Rhineland says crews have not started to clear any rural roads, noting visibility is still too bad to head out.

Craig Smiley hopes they can get graders out tomorrow morning.

He adds roads in the communities of Plum Coulee, Rosenfeld and Gretna have all been cleared once and expects they'll get redone tomorrow as well.

Smiley also offered a plea to residents asking them not to pile snow on the sides of the roads after clearing their driveways, noting those piles will freeze tonight and create a dangerous situation for graders and the operators.

He also asks motorists be careful when approaching equipment and to not pass.

In the R.M of Morris, crews have not started to clear rural roads and will only proceed to do so when safe.
