New kennels were the highlight at the Pembina Valley Humane Society (PVHS) open house Wednesday night.

PVHS President Tyler Cameron says their latest renovation project saw the old wooden kennel dividers replaced with cement ones.

"The last kennel area lasted us about seven years, where this new method will last far beyond that," said Cameron.

He added the new kennels will last longer than the previous one and will be easier for the staff and volunteers to maintain, clean, and better for the animal in general.

Animals were temporarily fostered out of the old kennels during the the renovation process. Since then shelter Manager Dave Bone was able to find permanent foster families for the dogs.

Cameron says they have felt the support of the community on all of the projects they've completed.

Looking ahead, he says there are still a few areas of the building they would like to shore up.
