About 42 miles of drains in the R.M. of Morris will get some attention this year.

As soon as weather allows this spring, Reeve Ralph Groening says crews will get to work unblocking and unplugging any drains, as well as removing any cattails that may be growing in the ditches and impeding water flow.

"It is our responsibility to make sure that the drains work effectively and efficiently so that farmers can do their very best and have the best infrastructure available to grow crops successfully," he added.

Groening explained each council approves the projects based on in-house assessments and requests from area farmers and ratepayers.

"We review them and study them, give comments to public works at our (annual) planning session and then it comes to council for approval."
