Last Saturday, on March 19th, Carberry RCMP were called to the scene of a crime where the thieves left the tools of their trade behind.  A silo, located on a rural property on Highway 2, approximately 10 kilometres west of Glenboro, was broken into and some $20,000 worth of canola seed was removed.  What baffles police is that the thieves left their auger behind upon leaving the yard with a full grain truck.

RCMP Media Relations Officer, Tara Seel, says this is certainly an unusual theft from the farm where a significant amount of canola seed was taken from the silo. ``This one was really unusual for us, it really stands out and that’s why we thought we'd put it out there as the public might have seen something, this auger driving down the road at an odd time, or the grain truck driving down the road at a time that seemed a bit odd, it’s something we'd be interested in hearing about.``

Officer Seel reminds residents to have someone check your property if you're away on holidays or travelling away from home. ``It’s definitely something to be aware of.  With people going on holidays, or if they're not residing on the property, or if they're just away for a couple of days, have someone who can check the property, or have security measures in place that can protect property.  It’s always advisable to protect your property any way you can.``

``But definitely keep your eyes open for anything that is suspicious, or anything that is out of place, and to call your local RCMP,`` she advises.

Seel adds that the RCMP are working very hard on the investigation, but not to assume that they know what residents know so if anything seems out of the ordinary or stands out in your mind, they would welcome the call.

As well, do take a look at the photos attached to this story and call Carberry RCMP if you recognize the grain auger, or anything other detail that could give police information.
