Crime in the RM of Stanley remains relatively low, though traffic tickets are increasing according to a recent report.

RCMP provided stats from the last five months to the RM of Stanley council. "Overall, they were quite happy with what's going on. Their call list is about the same, there was nothing dramatic," Stanley Reeve Morris Olafson explains.

However, he notes RCMP have been monitoring rural roads more closely.

"They got a traffic guy that really enjoys his job, and it has been noticeable... there are people getting tickets in the municipality, more than they used to," Olafson says. "And there is a reason why, they're speeding, they're going through red lights, they're just not driving right."

Olafson also notes there was a jump in individuals locked up overnight, many of which were meth-related incidents.

The Winnipeg Police recently initiated a public awareness campaign around the dangers of meth use, highlighting the emotional price families pay. Using the #soMETHingswrong, testimonies from Manitoba victims have been shared.

"It doesn't take long for it to start affecting your morality, your conscience, your sense of joy, or your ability to feel," one anonymous user said.

According to Winnipeg Police, the use of Crystal Meth has dramatically increased in the province with no clear answers as to why. As the cost of the drug has dropped, the availability has increased.
