After a series of thefts last week, which targeted local businesses in Morden, Police are reminding residents to take the necessary precautions in lessening their risk.

Morden Police Chief Brad Neduzak says while it may seem like a high number of thefts took place, it isn't indicative of crime increasing in the community.

"They come in waves; there will be long periods where we will not have any break and enters. Then you'll see similar situations as we had within two days we had seven Break and Enters to businesses and nothing since."

Neduzak says there isn't a crime wave going through Morden; it was only circumstances. He says thefts and crime are inevitable but thankfully aren't that common in the community.

When crimes do happen, he says it's an opportunity to avoid becoming complacent.

"Any steps you take will certainly help, it can't always eliminate all situations. We encourage businesses to look into alarm systems or surveillance cameras, those sorts of things, that could help not only themselves but also us when we're investigating. "

If a household or businesses find themselves a victim of theft, Neduzak says call your local authority and not to touch anything. Anything that is disturbed could be physical evidence and potentially hinder the investigation.
