People who are suffering grief or loss in the Morris area now have access to some support through Red River Palliative Care. A grief support group has been established for the next six weeks to bring people together who are going through the same journey.

Palliative Care Volunteer Coordinator Holly Rafferty says it's a time to share with others what you are going through.

"You will have a chance to see among each other how everyone copes in different ways. It's a six week session that builds on different aspects of grief. In the past we have had about a dozen people attend at once."

Rafferty says people often learn about the different situations others are dealing with and even though not every situation is exactly the same, it's nice to talk to someone that can understand and is in a similar situation.

"The best part is how close people become with one another, making life long friends and supports. I want to remind people that if they have had a loss it's important, no loss is more important than another, and if you still think this group is not for you please give me a call we can talk about it," explained Rafferty.

The focus of the six week session is to walk through the steps of grief with others who share similar experiences and losses. A trained volunteer and coordinator facilitates these sessions, offering a safe and supportive environment for all participants. Red River Palliative Care acknowledges that your grief experience is unique and you will be asked to share only what you are comfortable sharing, and that everything shared in the space will stay in that space.
