The Morris General Hospital will see an estimated 3,000 square ft renovation to its doctor's clinic area.

The hospital has 23 beds and a four-physician medical clinic.

Ed Voth, Economic Development Officer for the Town of Morris, said the clinic area is located in the hospital's basement.

"It's that entire area at the north end of the hospital in the basement where the doctors currently operate, that will be renovated and upgraded to modern standards," said Voth.

Town council has looked at asbestos testing quotes, which needs to happen prior to construction.

Voth explained the hospital was built in 1949, a time when asbestos was used quite extensively.

"If there's found to be asbestos, then they would give us a quote on removal of it so that it is done in a proper way to protect the health of people," said Voth.

He added renovations will likely begin this spring or summer, and money from a bequest will be used to help fund the project.
