Altona police are reminding the public to lock up their belongings and secure their possessions. The agency has seen an influx of reports of thefts from vehicles and thefts of bikes in the past week. Items stolen from vehicles include purses, loose change, sporting and electronic items, and personal items.
    
When it comes to preventing bike theft, police says it's a good idea to write down the serial number, make, colour and model of your bike. Owners may also register their bike with the police service for a small fee of $3.

Police urge motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians to share the roads responsibly and enjoy the rest of this summer safely and to report any suspicious activity, day or night, to police by calling 204-324-5353 or in the case of an emergency 911.

Meantime, police were also kept busy this past week with reports mischief, assaults and sexual assaults which remain under investigation. Officers also dealt with calls regarding mental health issues.
