Remembrance Day was marked by a number of ceremonies around the region Saturday, November 11.

The day recalls the end of hostilities of World War I, which formally ended in 1918, at the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month.

However, the anniversary has become an opportunity to remember the many men and women who've served, and continue to serve in the Canadian Armed Forces.

Services take place in a number of communities around the region.

In Morden, Pat Gibson shared her story of travelling to France to see the beaches and hills where family members fought and died.

When confronted with the Vimy Ridge memorial in person, she wept.

When asked why she answered simply, "I'm trying to understand, my father-in-law, at 16 years old... he stood here."

Looking out over the crowd at the young people in the service she says it's hard to imagine the young people who would've served and made the ultimate sacrifice.
