One year ago Ecole Elmwood School in Altona received approval to move a portable classroom from W.C. Miller Collegiate onto the elementary school property, and now the moving process has begun.

Digging has started at the site and the building is expected to arrive later in the summer. Following its installment the portable will be used for Grade 2 French Immersion.

Principal, Chris Hicks explained this will clear up a small classroom within the school for small group and one-on-one learning, plus other programming and activities.

The need for the extra space stems from rising enrollment, he said.

"We've kind of had to make do with what we have. And right now it's okay but if the enrollment keeps going up, it won't be," he said.

Although the lack of space has proven to be an obstacle, it's a positive one, Hicks said.

"The idea that we need expansion just tells us that our community's growing and people are investing trust in our school division; they want their kids to come to school here," he said. "It's a sign of things happening."
