After 35 years faithfully serving the Pembina Valley, Ron Wiebe of Ron Wiebe Agencies is closing the door and looking forward to the next chapter.

In that time, Wiebe says he's likely sold a house on every street in Morden. However, he notes he's seen a seismic shift in the real estate industry in recent years, with a steeper challenge facing young people when buying their first home. Instead more apartment buildings are being built in the region.

"People are adapting," he says.

Technology has also changed the way people shop for a home.

"It used to be that I'd pick up a family in the car and show them five, six homes," he says. "With today's technology and the Internet they phone me and say "this is the home I want to see," ... it's a changing world."

The career's challenges, as many realtors know, is the work is never 9-5. However, Wiebe says he looks forward to taking more time for his family in his semi-retirement, noting his wife has supported him completely through the years.

Highlights have been working alongside longtime staff, and the opportunity to meet newcomers to the community and helping them find their first home.

"It's been a good life," he says, adding he looks forward to keeping his realtor's licence and continuing to serve the community on a more part-time basis.

Throughout the transition of closing Ron Wiebe Agencies its realtors will also continue in real estate in the region.
