The City of Morden is continuing work on the Pembina Hills Art Gallery.

Clare Agnew, Director of Community Services, said the roof is being replaced.

"With a building that's over a hundred years old, we always seem to have something that we have to be maintaining," said Agnew.

Last year roof work on the tower was completed, and this year the remainder of the roof project will be tackled.

"There were some pieces that were a bit loose last year, that in the windstorm was causing us some concern. So certainly it's something we want to do for the upkeep of the building, but also the safety because it's such a busy part of town."

Agnew adds they've applied for a heritage grant for $19,000 to help fund the roofing project.

"They assist with heritage buildings to be able to maintain those and preserve the history of our province," she said.

Repairs will happen with or without the grant, and the $42,000 project will start up in the coming months.

The gallery will likely stay open during the repairs, but some change in hours may take place.
