Diabetes prevention and awareness were the focus during day-long activities Friday, National Aboriginal Diabetes Awareness Day, at Roseau River First Nation. A lunch and learn kicked things off in the morning, followed by an amazing-race style event that featured six activities relating to Diabetes.

Jessica Peranteau is a Tribal Diabetes Coordinator and says the disease affects Aboriginal people at a greater rate than the rest of the Canadian population.

"There's a number of our own family members and people that we work with that have Diabetes, so it's a constant fight that we all need to work together to prevent."

She says Friday was a time for the community to come together to learn more about Diabetes and have some fun through learning.
