Twenty-five students will be celebrating graduation today at Rosenort School.

Kroeker has a future goal of becoming an ultrasound technician

JesseRae Kroeker, from the Rosenort area, is this year's valedictorian.

Kroeker has plans to become an ultrasound technician in the future.

"I will be attending the University of Winnipeg in the fall, I'm taking pre-requisite courses there because I want to go to an ultrasound program at Red River College the year after," she explained.

A grade 9 Career Studies class helped decide her future studies.

"I happened to look that up, and got really interested in it, and ever since then I've been planning on becoming an ultrasound technician," said Kroeker.

A highlight of her grade 12 year happened about 3 weeks ago, when about 20 students and 3 teachers went on a school trip of eastern Canada.

"We went to Quebec, Montreal and Ottawa all within a week, so many tours of old parts of the cities. It was really cool to connect with different people too, and see different parts of Canada."

Kroeker's valedictorian speech is about balancing courage and fear.

"It's good to give yourself permission to feel fear... just as long as you remember that you want to be in charge of your life, not letting fear drive you necessarily...not letting that motivate everything you do," she explained.

This year Kroeker was involved in volleyball and track and field, and was proud of her work in pre-calculus.

"I actually enjoyed pre-calculus, which kind of surprises myself, it's definitely a challenging course but I had a really good teacher, he's pretty good at motivating us students," she said.

The theme of graduation this year revolves around the quote "I don't know where I'm going but I'm on my way." Kroeker said many grade 12 students may not have solid plans for the future, and she believes that's okay. She added it can be helpful to take advantage of opportunities that come up along the way.
