South Central Regional Library is celebrating family literacy this week with pyjamas parties happening at all four branches. Guest readers will spend an evening reading with local families and exploring the library.

Rachael Friesen is the Branch Librarian at the Altona location, she says it's very important for libraries to encourage families to read together.

"We want everyone to read on their own but it's very important, especially for kids, to read with their parents and to have that experience. It helps solidify that they need to be life-long readers."

She hopes parents leave the pyjama parties with a renewed interest in reading with their children.

"We really want parents to realize how important it is to sit down and read with their kids no matter the age, even the old kids still enjoy having that storybook read to them."

Pyjama parties are happening in Winkler and Morden on Tuesday, January 24 at 7 p.m. and in Altona and Miami on Thursday, January 26 at 7 p.m
