Seeding operations are on track this year, says Emerson-area farmer Larry Neumann.

The producer said in some previous years he had not even started seeding by the May long weekend, but this year he was able to do so before the much-needed rain that hit southern Manitoba last week.

"So far so good. It was a fairly relaxed run this year, and moisture of course was an issue until we got the rain on Thursday and Friday," he said.

Neumann expects this season's crops will be off to a wonderful start with the combination of last week's rain, the anticipated moisture in this weekend's forecast and the high temperatures.

Next, he said, he will be watching out for flea beetles as he has noticed some airplanes spraying for the vegetable crop-loving pest.
