The following is the Morden Police Service report for the period of April 24th to May 1st, 2017, as submitted by the department.

April 24th, 2017

Police received a report from a property owner that a disturbance had occurred at one of their properties the previous evening and asked police to assist with checking on the residence.  Police learned that the tenant/victim had returned home in the early morning hours and found his ex-girlfriend causing damage to the residence.    Upon entering the residence, the victim was assaulted by the accused, causing minor injuries to his facial area.    Police were contacted, as it was believed the accused might still be inside the residence causing damage.  Police attended to the residence and located the accused hiding in the bathtub.  Police observed the residence to have extensive damage and the accused was placed under arrest.  The accused had received minor injuries, as a result of causing damage to the residence, and she was taken to Boundary Trails Hospital for treatment.  As a result of this incident, the accused has been charged with Break, Enter and commit Mischief, Mischief to Property over $5000, Assault, and failing to comply with conditions to not contact or attend to the victim’s residence.  The accused was already on charge by both the Winnipeg Police Service and the Morden Police Service.   The accused was remanded into police custody and transported to the provincial women’s jail for a future court appearance.  

April 25th, 2017

Police received a report of a fraudulent computer scam that occurred to a Morden resident.  The victim contacted police to explain they had been contacted through Facebook by a company offering to help fix their computer.  The company identified themselves as Super Anti-Spyware and had contacted the victim throughout the week.  The culprit(s) requested a payment of $300 in gift cards to complete the work on the victim’s computer.   The victim was alerted to this being a scam before any money had been transferred but may have allowed the culprit(s) access to their computer.  

April 26th, 2017

In the early morning hours, members of the Morden Police Service conducted a traffic stop on a suspected Suspended Driver.  While attempting to stop the vehicle, police observed the driver and front passenger to switch seats.  Police approached the vehicle and observed two young children inside the vehicle.  Police conducted checks on the driver and determined that he was Prohibited from Driving Canada Wide and had an Unendorsed Warrant issued for being unlawfully at Large.  The accused was supposed to be serving an intermittent jail sentence, on the weekends, and failed to show up as ordered.  The accused was taken into police custody and remanded to appear at a later court date.  As a result, the accused Steven Woodend of Roland, Manitoba has been charged with Driving while Prohibited, Driving without Motor vehicle Liability insurance, and for Breach of his Probation Order.

April 26th, 2017

Police received a call from a City employee regarding a suspicious substance that was found on Public Property.  Police attended and recovered a small package labeled Exotic Extracts.  Inside the package, police discovered a substance known as “Shatter” – a powerful cannabis extraction that can be purchased through the internet. The package was seized and police continue to investigate the matter.

April 27th, 2017

While on general patrol, members of the Morden Police Service conducted a licence plate check on a vehicle and discovered that it was unregistered.  Police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and determined the driver of the vehicle was also a Suspended driver.  As a result of the traffic stop, a 41-year-old male resident of Morden has been charged with driving an unregistered vehicle and driving while disqualified.  The accused vehicle was impounded for a mandatory minimum of 30 days.


In the last reporting period, the Morden Police Service advised the public of a vehicle that was reported stolen from the 300 block of 11th street in Morden.  A subsequent investigation has revealed that the owner of the vehicle made a false report to police and the vehicle had not in fact been stolen.  As a result, police have arrested a 32 year old female resident of Morden for Public Mischief and she was released on a Promise to Appear in Morden Provincial Court in June.
