South Central Cancer Resource (SCCR) received its single largest donation ever recently thanks to the Mike Pritchard Memorial Golf Tournament held at Carman Golf Club.

"For us, not having to worry when someone walks in if we're able to help them or not... it comes from donations such as this," Deb Thiessen, Clinical Resource Coordinator for SCCR explained.

More than $30,000 was donated to the organization from the tournament organizers.

SCCR, a non-profit organization based in Morden, assists people throughout the region with their cancer journey, and relies on donations to continue offering its programs to its clients.

Thiessen noted continued donations help keep the transportation program, Big Wig, and new programs like Beautiful You and Expression of Art Through Your Eyes available to clients.

"Up until this year we always stressed our transportation, it is our major expense for our organization. Due to great donations like this one, we've been able to open up a few new programs."

Last year SCCR's transportation program expenses were $115,000.

Beautiful You helps women with their skin care and makeup with the help of Pure Anada. Expression of Art Through Your Eyes by the Pembina Hills Art Council, allows clients to express their cancer journey through different art mediums.

Thiessen says she can't express how much the donations mean to the SCCR and its clients.
