Out of 95 health facility projects recently approved for funding by the province, 24 are within Southern Health-Santé Sud.

Ken Klassen is vice president of finance and capital for Southern Health.  He says one of the highlights for Southern Health include fire safety at some of their older health care facilities.  He notes there has been an initiative province-wide to upgrade fire suppression and alarm systems across Manitoba.  "We have been approved for an upgrade in the dry sprinkler system in Altona, also the sprinkler systems in Menno Home in Grunthal and Rest Haven in Steinbach.  We have also been approved for a fire alarm system at Foyer Notre Dame."

Klassen says other projects include the replacement of the reverse osmosis unit and patient wandering security system at Boundary Trails Health Centre, and roof repairs at both the Morris Hospital and the Pembina Health Centre in Manitou.

Klassen says the dollar amount approved for Southern Health projects totals just over $4.5 million.
