Winkler has seen a number of speed and noise complaints from residents on 6th St.

While a rope was added to the Library parking lot to reduce through-traffic off Main St., local citizens have noticed loitering in the area.

Mayor Martin Harder says more traffic radar monitors would be a benefit, "it makes a huge difference when those lights come flashing on... you know you're speeding so you adjust."

He notes with more police officers on staff the city has benefited from more police presence. "The evidence is showing there's a little more control on the traffic side."

Concern has also been expressed to the city's transportation and utilities committee over the condition of sidewalks along 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th St., as well as Mountain Ave. The main concern revolved around walkability for seniors and those with mobility issues.

Harder says the city is evaluating their sidewalk network as a whole, and looking for areas most in need of repairs. Last summer, Mountain Ave., received a major rehaul.

Citizens living near PTH 14 have also requested a higher fence and reduction in speed. Concerns about the difficulty of enforcing "Jake brakes" was also discussed. However, the committee noted highway speeds are regulated by the Province.
