The LUD of St Jean is using friendly competition as a way to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday. St Jean Baptiste is located just off Highway 75 between Morris and Letellier with a population of over 500.

LUD Chair Lucien Jean said it all started with a question.

"How do we instill pride in our country and community at the same time? So, the LUD Committee thought what better way than to extend a challenge to the people by asking them to decorate with the colors of our flag, red and white."

Jean added that the decorating is totally up to the resident and does not have to be just flowers or flags.

"So we've offered this challenge to the residents of St Jean to decorate their yards in red and white. Their garage door, and driveway, whatever they choose, but it should be decorated to commemorate Canada's 150th birthday," said Jean.

The decorations will be judged by local residents and prizes awarded in August when blooms are at their fullest.
