STARS Air Ambulance responded to 58 calls throughout Manitoba in November, with 22 of them coming from the South Central region, up from 17 in October.

Els Fenton, STARS Manitoba Executive Director, says people enjoying the winter conditions should exercise caution while outdoors, making sure to reduce their speed and increase the distance from other vehicles.

As a not-for-profit organization, STARS relies on fundraising to support their service in Western Canada. Each of the six STARS bases has an annual operating cost of $10 million, and Fenton notes the Manitoba branch hopes to fundraise half of the cost moving forward.

The next STARS Rescue on the Island fundraiser is set for early 2017.
