A woman from Steinbach is considering whether to make a run for the leadership of the Manitoba Liberal Party. Judy Klassen represents the northern riding of Kewatinook but lives in Steinbach. She took over as interim leader in late October after former leader Rana Bokhari stepped down. Klassen says she is enjoying the role and the steep learning curve that goes with it. But she is not yet sure whether she will pursue the post on a permanent basis.

"Right now I'm just getting my feet wet to see what that role looks like and to start building bridges to build the party."

The Manitoba Liberals have scheduled their leadership convention for October 21st. Klassen says she will make her decision in the next four months.

Meanwhile, as she prepares for a new Sitting of the Legislature, which starts Wednesday, Klassen says she is surprised at how long it is taking the Progressive Conservative Government to make its much talked about changes to make the province better.

"I'm really surprised that, after being in opposition for so long, that they still haven't hit the ground running. Plans are so slow in forthcoming and I just don't understand it."

As for her biggest disappointment in the new government, Klassen says, "The loss of jobs. We're hearing of all these cuts and all these program cuts and we're just hemorrhaging jobs here in Manitoba."
