The Morden Park Bowl was host to a couple of community events Sunday, including the Access Credit Union "Step for Pets' Walk-a-Thon in support of the Pembina Valley Humane Society.

Yesterday's walk-a-thon raised over $12,500.

Every animal that comes through the doors of the Pembina Valley Humane Society (PVHS) in Morden gets checked by a vet, gets their shots, and if needed, they are spayed or neutered. However, some animals that come in need special care, and that all comes at a cost. The money to pay for these services comes from donations, and through fundraising events, like yesterday's "Step for Pets" walk-a-thon.

Public Relations Chair for PVHS, Megan Rodgers said they recently took in two dogs that needed some of that extra care. One by the name of Hope, a stray who ingested rat poison and had to be on vitamin K treatments for a few weeks.

"But now she's happy and healthy," said Rodgers. "She's only a year old so we're really happy she's getting a second chance at life."

Buddy is another stray dog recently brought in to the animal shelter.

"He had a dislocated shoulder for over a year, the vet thought," Rodgers said. "So he had to have surgery in order to get his quality of life back with his shoulder."

Buddy is now recovering with his foster parents.

Both Hope and Buddy will soon be up for adoption. If you're interested in making either dog a part of your family, visit pvhsociety.ca for more information.
