The strong west wind is beginning to make an impact in areas of the Pembina Valley.  A large evergreen tree at the south end of Third Street in Winkler was the victim of this morning's wind gusts.  The tree is impeding traffic on the southbound lane of Third Street South at the corner of Southview Drive.

A wind warning is in effect for much of Southern Manitoba today, with gusts of 90 km/h or even higher expected today.

Meanwhile, Manitoba Public Insurance is urging drivers to take extra caution in the wind today.

It notes high winds can topple trees and cause debris to fly onto roadways. Strong wind can also make it hard to maintain control of a vehicle.  MPI says anyone carrying cargo, particularly in pickup trucks, is urged to ensure their load is secured.
