Grade two students in Mrs. Darlene Wirth's grade two class at Minnewasta School in Morden took an interesting approach to learning about the heritage and diversity of their classmates.

"We have been studying the cultural history of the kids in our class. We made a map of all the different countries of origin," said Wirth. "We've been talking about what's different and what's the same in all of our cultures. They've had roughly the month to think about what are some things that either grandma makes or mom makes that is kind of a traditional bread recipe that's from their family. Then we had this taste testing day and it was a fabulous time."

Wirth said the students were really engaged in the entire process and was happy to see the kids take an interest in the project. She added prior to this taste test for the students, they read the book 'Everybody Eats Bread', which helped spark the idea.

"Because they are bringing their own in. Then they are very excited to share it with somebody else and see if they like it or not," said Wirth.

She went on to say the kids tend to have more fun and learn more when they are able to get involved in such a project as this. She noted this one class has upwards of twenty-five different countries and parts of the world.
