Take Your Kid To Work Day is a chance for parents to show their kids an insider's perspective on what their jobs are really like.

Grade nine students all across Manitoba participate every year, which can help give students insight into the importance of education before entering the workforce, how businesses serve their local communities and see if a job might spark their interest.

Leigh Penner is a Design Consultant at Two30Nine in Morden, and she brought her daughter to the Decor plants. "She started off the main plant with a safety orientation, and then she came here for a bit. Then I actually took her on-site for a house where we were templating the countertop for an install."

As well, she got to go on a number of tours, take in some demonstrations and presentations, and even dream up some new kitchen designs on her mom's computer. "I let her kind of play with designing what she would do in our home if we were going to replace our kitchen, so I think she really enjoyed that."

Penner says her kids will often ask her about her day at work and what she did, and on days where she sells a kitchen or has another moment of success, her family is quick to share in the excitement.

"It's very special. We had done this two years ago with my son as well, and it's just a great chance for them to see all the different parts. I think it's cool also to see how with such a big company like Decor, how it all works together."

"I really appreciate all the work that Decor does to organize a great day for the kids that do come out," adds Penner.
