Wiebe with Daemon Parent on the Country 88 morning show. It's been three years since a group of individuals wanted to utilize the many ponds throughout the region and help out a good cause while at it.

Pembina Valley Pound Hockey (PVPH) now has nine teams, and Organizer Kevin Wiebe says they never expected it to see success its garnered, only dreaming it would catch on so quickly.

"Where it goes from here, I have no idea, but the better we can do it, the more teams we can get. We're doing our best."

The event at the Chortiz Pond was in support of Pembina Valley Bible Camp, with an estimated $2,500 to $3,000 raised. Wiebe says they chose this organization because it's local; they know people within the organization and believes it does good work for the community.

Wiebe adds they're always willing to support other groups at future events and are open to suggestions on which organizations need a helping hand.

The Saturday event was well-received, says Wiebe, the weather was pleasant, and it seemed all participants and onlookers had a good time.

He encourages anyone who feels they may not be good enough to create a team to come and take part in future events, as it's a day to have fun and build community.
