Residents of the new Tabor Home facility say it's a welcomed change of scenery compared to the original.

"I like Tabor Home. I always have," said resident Mary Gerbrandt, who lived in the original facility for around 40 years.

The facility was opened in September and has been welcoming residents ever since.

Tabor Home Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sherry Hildebrand said they've been able to welcome two new residents each week and have welcomed around 21 residents in total.

"This represents many hours of work by all departments and much good teamwork as we provide a new home with good care for each person and build relationships with their families," said Hildebrand.

The 100-bed facility has been a long time in the making, roughly a quarter century, but Gerbrandt said it was worth the wait.

"All of the rooms are bigger than the ones in the old home. This is super. I can turn around and not hit anything," said Gerbrandt who uses a wheelchair.

She said the beds are really comfy and she remembered the first night in her new bed, "I slept like a log".

Gerbrandt was able to cut the ribbon upon her arrival at the new facility.

She added just being able to see the new facility she was in awe.

"It was just all so beautiful... we can't wish for anything better. I believe we have best one in Manitoba," said Gerbrandt.
