The Altona Community Foundation (ACF), over the last number of weeks, has distributed $15,656 in grants.

The funds help community projects in Altona, Gretna, Rosenfeld and the Municipality of Rhineland.

Board member Brenda Thiesen presented a cheque for $1,200 to Helen Voth of the Altona Senior Centre. Funds were used for an outdoor door opener and a kitchen roller blind. She also presented $5,820 to Laurie Schellenberg, Managing Director at The Gardens on Tenth, for a new fire alarm panel.

Board member Chris Sumner presented $2,500 to Recreation Director Ron Epp, which was used for Canada 150 celebrations.

Jason Pilkington of Altona Minor Hockey was given a cheque for $2,000, which was used for jerseys. Brad Derksen presented this cheque on behalf of the foundation.

Loren Braul presented a $500 cheque to Susie Fisher of the Gretna Prairie Centre. Funds were used for toilet upgrades. Braul also presented a $1,636 cheque to Eva Peters of the Altona Skating Club, which went toward a skating harness.

Board member Brenda Thiesen presented a $2,000 cheque to Ray Hamm of the Neubergthal Heritage Foundation, which funded new washrooms at the heritage site.

Since 1994 the ACF endowment fund has grown to $1.237 million, and over $729,000 has been distributed in grants to local community projects.
