Christian band, The Color, is being honoured by the top echelon of Canada's music industry. Their latest album, "First Day Of My Life" was nominated for a Juno in the Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the Year category.

While awards are not the goal of their ministry, vocalist Jordan Janzen says it's a high honour.

"God calls us all to use our gifts to glorify Him and we have the opportunity to do so," he says.

As a CCM (Christian Contempory Music) band in the mainstream world, he notes "Christian" music sometimes sits under a stigma.

"It's cool to see the industry standard continue to raise and to be part of raising the bar," he says. "We work hard to put out a great quality product. And it's good that not only the Christian music industry recognizes that but the industry as a whole... they believe in what we're doing."

It's a philosophical question that many CCM artists struggle with, Janzen says, "are we a Christian band that writes mainstream music, or "Christian" music?"

While both have an impact, he believes their calling is specifically to the Church, "we feel called to minister to Christians, as well as write music that will hopefully connect beyond that."

The band recently took home four GMA Covenant awards including Group of the Year, Artist of the Year and accolades for two singles ('First Day of My Life' and 'Surprise').

Janzen says the key to reaching a high level of quality is time and energy, as well as a great team and a wealth of collaborators.

"We've been fortunate to have a knack for writing catchy pop songs, and we've also been very fortunate to have the right people involved in the process to take things to a different level."

The Junos take place March 24-25 in Vancouver, hosted by Michael Buble.
