There was excellent support for the 30th annual Ducks Unlimited fundraiser held in Winkler Saturday night.

Chairman of the Volunteer Provincial Council for Ducks Unlimited, Jim Anton said there was a lot of enthusiasm and support displayed for wetlands conservation.

At its inception, Ducks Unlimited began as an organization that was concerned about water fowl, however, it then morphed into a conservation organization where wetland conservation became the main focus.

Events like the one held in Winkler, Saturday are meant to raise awareness about the cause of Ducks Unlimited and current initiatives.

"We need water for life," said Anton. "Being a rural community, it's right in the heart and soul, in the bread basket of where we do our projects. So it resonates with small communities and the rural community."

Anton expects Saturday's banquet will bring in between $12,000 and $15,000 for wetland conservation.

In the 29 years leading up to the Saturday's banquet, over $450,000 has been raised through the annual event.
