With all the extra snow this year, you're bound to see more sleds hitting area trails. The snowmobiling season got underway with a bang thanks to a couple of winter storms that left the area with an excess of fresh powder.

Border Valley Sno Goers Club President, Vern Wieler, said they have been out grooming the trails for a couple of weeks already, having started before the Christmas season, but due to the constant snow and winds only seventy percent of the system has gotten groomed at least once. Along with the difficulties with grooming the trails, Wieler says that much of the system remains unmarked, with roughly forty percent completed.

The trail system runs approximately 320 kilometres, with loops running from the west end of Morden to the U.S. Border, going east all the way to the Red River.

Border Valley Sno Goers relies on volunteers to help set up markers along the trail. Markers are needed to provide safe trails for riders and for the club to receive funding from Snoman Manitoba.  If you would like to help, you can contact Vern Wieler by calling 204-362-0366 or by visiting their website at snowgoers.ca

Wieler says membership isn't great right now, but he expects it to pick up as the trail system becomes more accessible. Snoman Passes are available at any MPI office and cost $150 per snowmobile.
