Virtual Reality is no longer reserved for the techy elite or hardcore gamers, now, for a small cover charge, anyone can experience the new technological frontier thanks to a pair of Morden-based entrepreneurs.

Sergey Akhankin and Stanislav Korolev started Morden VR (Virtual Reality) in December to share their passion for the technology.

"First you see something you like, then you decide you want to earn money by providing this," said Akhankin.

"We decided to show people that it can be interesting and not expensive," Korolev added.

The full VR kit could cost a person around $1,500, depending on the console they buy. Akhankin and Korolev allow people to come and play almost any night of the week for a low fee, so people interested in playing VR games don't have to shell out for their own set.

For now, Akhankin and Korolev meet in Akhankin's wife's photo studio on Stephen St. in Morden. If and when the VR club becomes more popular, they will look into a more dedicated space.

Morden VR has been slow gaining the public's attention. Akhankin and Korolev set up at Morden's Winterfest and Winkler's Comic Con to introduce themselves and their new business. The idea was well-received at both events.

"It was interesting to see how grown up people who have never tried it, walk by and ask, 'what do you have here? Can I try it?' We put it on them and they were like, 'Wow! It's so real!' Akhankin said, but admitted that explaining what VR is like is so substitute for trying it.

The plan is to create a gaming club for a variety of age groups, not focusing on junior and senior high adolescents like Youth For Christ's The Warehouse of The Bunker. However, most games released for VR are for adults as they involve some form of violence; the VR headset is also made to fit adults and older children.

On Friday, Mar. 10, a VR Fruit Ninja tournament will be happening at Morden VR with prizes from local businesses.
