Two church youth groups have combined to create one faith community.

City Center Youth was recently created out of the Pathway Church started seven years ago and Bergthaler Mennonite Church in Winkler which dates back more than 120 years.

"We prayed about it and realized God could use this for an awesome purpose," Youth Pastor Ryley Fehr explains.

Because they meet at Bergthaler in Winkler's core, they felt City Center Youth was a fitting name.

"The main thing is that two churches can work together," Fehr says. "It doesn't have to be a competition of who's better."

"Just like all the churches in town... we can work with each other to build community," he says. "So that's what we're doing, working together for one purpose."

Pathway held it's first service in 2010 with 50 people in attendance. Now more than 600 adults call the church community home.

In 2014, the church approached the Bergthaler Church, to see if they'd be willing to rent out the gym. Leadership went a step further and suggested sharing the entire building with staggered services.

Today they share both a building and a youth group.

A recent highlight for the group was special guest speaker and Winnipeg Blue Bomber Kevin Fogg.

The Defensive End came out last month to give his testimony and the power of surrounding yourself with good influences.

"He was very engaging, his was an awesome story," Fehr says, adding the students were encouraged to recognize the importance of choosing friends that build you up.
