Multiple ruptured water lines have impacted Morden residents twice in as many weeks. On Wednesday, a local feeder line was ruptured during underground drilling during an MTS installation.

The West portion of the Parkhill subdivision remains under a Boil Water Advisory until water samples can be tested and cleared.  However, Barcelona Bay, Cairo Bay, Florence Bay, Exeter Drive, and Georgia Bay are not under the advisory.

"In spite of our best efforts, it's one of those things that just happen," Les Wieler, Morden Director of Public Works, explains.

Last week, work on an ongoing bank stabilization project by the Enbridge pipeline project caused a rupture on the main water supply line, causing water pressure to drop across the city.

"It doesn't take much," Wieler says, to rupture a pipe when using heavy equipment.

"It's an inherent hazard when you're doing underground work," he says.

When water is shut down, and sits for a period, the disinfectant can become diluted, Wieler explains, adding a risk of bacteria growth.

The Boil Water Advisory is an extra precaution.

He notes bathing and showering is safe.

Crews continue to work overtime until the issue is resolved, many working until the early morning hours.

"People were very understanding," Wieler says, and thanked the resident who unexpectedly brought donuts and coffee for hard working crews.
