Carman-area residents came together Friday evening to enjoy some homemade Ukrainian food while raising money for a good cause.

Following a three year break, Bob Kowalchuk brought back the Ukrainian Dinner for Alzheimer's, an event he hosted for twelve years to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba in honour of mom until her passing about four years ago. He says the idea to revive the dinner came this past October when he got a phone call from Harvey Kehler who's own mom had recently been diagnosed with the disease.

"So we met, discussed a few ideas, I told him what I would like him to do to help me out and here we are."

In the twelve years that he hosted the dinner, Kowalchuk says the menu never changed.

While the final tally isn't in yet, Kowalchuk expects Friday's dinner to bring in about $5,000 for the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba. He outlines his hopes for future support related to the debilitating disease.

Kowalchuk thanks all those that sponsored the dinner and bought tickets.
