UPDATE: Police say a stolen truck was driven through the front wall of a Winkler gun store before thieves escaped with a large number of handguns and long guns.

"Right now we're looking at about 35 firearms, mostly handguns that were stolen," says Winkler Deputy Police Chief Chris Kalansky.

At 3:40 a.m., Tuesday morning, Kalansky says officers responded to an alarm at Dominion Outdoors. Upon arrival, police discovered a large hole in the front of the store.

The preliminary investigation has determined that a stolen truck was backed through the front wall of the store before three suspects fled the scene. The stolen truck was later recovered outside of Winkler.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Winkler Police Service at 204-325-0829 or Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 1(800) 222-8477.

"If somebody comes across these individuals, we ask that they keep their safety first and to call police right away... do not approach these individuals," says Kalansky.

At this point, Kalansky says no other agencies are involved in the investigation, however, they have notified police departments across the province.
