RCMP have released more details on the attempted break-in at the Miami Pharmacy on Monday.

At approximately 2:25 a.m on December 3, thieves attempted to gain entry by driving a vehicle into the front of the building. While there was considerable damage to the building they were unable to gain access and no merchandise was missing.

A few hours later, the vehicle believed to be responsible for this damage was found abandoned one mile east of Hwy 34 on Highway 23 near the Swan Lake First Nation. The vehicle was determined to have been stolen from the Neepawa area.

RCMP were later advised that two more vehicles were stolen from the Town of Swan Lake and recovered in the Manitou area and another near St. Claude.

Officers from the Carman and Manitou RCMP Detachments are currently investigating.

The attempt Monday marks the pharmacy's third incident since October 15.

Owner Sharon Maddison explains the two previous attempts saw thieves gain entry from the back door. "Before we could it secured properly they hit us a second time three weeks laster. Now the back is really secure, they decided to come in the front."

"They didn't get in but they did a lot of damage trying to get in," she adds. "It's very stressful, but at least this time we have inventory."

In the past week owners lost $9,000 in stolen merchandise.

"Opiod addiction, you hear about it all the time, and that's what's driving this," Maddison says.
