A Vancouver man was arrested in Winkler last week after an attempted shoplifting incident.

On November 19, shortly after 7:00 p.m, police were dispatched to a grocery store regarding two suspicious males. Loss prevention personnel recognized the two males from a previous shoplifting incident and requested that officers attend.

The two men attempted to leave the store without paying for approximately $650 in unpaid merchandise but abandoned the stolen items when approached by loss prevention personnel.

The first male, an 18-year-old resident of Winkler, was arrested for theft under $5,000 and released on a promise to appear with conditions. The second male, a 51-year-old resident of Vancouver, attempted to hide from police but was discovered by a patron nearby. The male was arrested for theft under $5,000 as well as on the strength of two warrants from another police agency and was remanded into custody to appear in Provincial Court.
